Join GWU American Studies professor for a discussion of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the gospel music trailblazer who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Tharpe, who first came to national attention in the late 1930s, was known for her charismatic performances and guitar virtuosity. But after her death in 1973, she was buried in an unmarked Philadelphia grave. Come learn about this remarkable performer's life and the circumstances that led her to 21st century acclaim as one of the inventors of rock-and-roll!

Gayle Wald is a professor of American Studies at George Washington University. She is author of the 2007 biography Shout, Sister, Shout! The Untold Story of Rock-and-Roll Trailblazer Sister Rosetta Tharpe, which has been made into an audiobook starring Leslie Uggams.
