The Golden Era at the Washington Post

Speaker: Bob Levey, Retired Washington Post Columnist

“Bob Levey’s Washington” appeared daily in the Washington Post for more than 23 years.  He worked at the Post for more than 36 years and he still produces special assignments for the newspaper.  As he says, he was lucky to have been part of the paper during the tenures of the great Ben Bradlee, the equally great Katharine Graham, the famous Woodward and Bernstein, and many others. Bob’s new novel, Larry Felder, Candidate, is heavily drawn on his time at The Post. The book, his third, centers around a famous Washington newspaper columnist who abandons journalism to run for Congress in the Maryland suburbs. The character Larry runs into all sorts of heavy weather, involving love, corruption and those nasty newspaper reporters. But the good guys win in the end.  Bob will regale us with his tales about the Post and his new book.

Bob’s book is available for order at: www.bobleveypublishing.com.

Bob Levey is a prize-winning journalist who has covered the Washington scene since the Johnson Administration.  His daily column, “Bob Levey’s Washington,” looked at all aspects of life in the nation’s capital and won major awards. Currently he writes a monthly column for Senior Beacon Newspapers.

Bob was named one of the most popular columnists in Washington seven times by Washingtonian magazine for his Post column. Earlier in his career at The Post, Bob Levey covered Presidential politics, Congress, local news, and sports. Bob also has had an extensive career in the electronic media. Over the course of more than 20 years, he worked for nine radio stations, four TV stations and one popular Internet site as a commentator and talk show host. His on-line chats for washingtonpost.com, called “Levey Live,” won consistently high ratings.

In his spare time, Bob Levey has been a semi-professional folk singer, a union president, and a national champion tournament bridge player.
