Speaker: Jordan Tannenbaum, Vice Chairman of the Council
The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation promotes the preservation, enhancement, and sustainable use of our nation’s diverse historic resources, and advises the President and the Congress on national historic preservation policy. Council Vice Chairman Jordan Tannenbaum will discuss the development of the federal government’s role in the preservation of cultural resources from the establishment of the Library of Congress in 1800 to the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and its Amendments. We will hear about a variety of cultural resources including Records, Historic Properties, Archeological Resources and Native American Concerns, as well as the pivotal role the Advisory Council has played and continues to play in the preservation of these irreplaceable components of our cultural patrimony.
Jordan Tannenbaum was appointed to the U.S. Advisory Council on Historic Preservation in 2016 by President Obama and and was recently reappointed and designated Council Vice Chairman by President Biden. For the past 17 years he has been the Chief Development Officer for the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Tannenbaum also currently serves on the boards of the Army Historical Foundation, the Fairfax County History Commission, and the Campaign to establish the Julius Rosenwald and Rosenwald Schools National Historical Park.
