Poet Edward Hirsch writes “Works of art imitate and provoke other works of art; the process is a source of art itself.” In this 6-session class we’ll read and discuss a selection of ekphrastic poems. The word ekphrasis is a direct transcription from the Greek ek, “out of,” and phrasis, “speech or expression,” and originally referred to a written passage of visual description. The ekphrastic poem has evolved from a piece of writing that is purely descriptive to an imaginative work that opens up new ways of encountering both image and language.
Join poet and artist, Marie Pavlicek-Wehrli in this exploration.
