New Frauds and Scams – and Seniors are Often the Intended Targets

Speaker: Suzanne McGovern, Senior Advisor, Office of Investor Education and Advocacy, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission

Are there still scams out there?  Yes – and the scammers are getting smarter. Come listen to Suzanne McGovern from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of Investor Education and Advocacy discuss current scams, red flags of fraud, and ways to protect your investments. Suzanne will include faith-based frauds, Covid frauds, and new “smishing”, among other topics.

Suzanne McGovern has been at the Securities and Exchange Commission for 15 years.  Prior to her current position in the Office of Investor Education and Advocacy, she most recently was an Assistant Director of the Broker-Dealer Exam Program in the Office of Compliance, Inspections and Examinations, responsible for examining broker dealers, investment advisers and creating an exam program for Municipal Advisors. She is also responsible for initiatives to protect Senior Investors, focusing on Anti-money laundering issues and the ETF market.  Suzanne graduated from Denison University with a B.A. in Economics and has been the recipient of several awards at the SEC, including the Law and Policy Award, Excellence in Leadership and two Chairman’s Award for Excellence.
