Deepening the Appreciation of Your Collections:  A Conversation with An Art and Antique Appraiser

Speaker: Sarah Reeder

The art and antiques we surround ourselves with in our homes can add great joy to our daily lives.  In this presentation we will hear from appraiser Sarah Reeder, who will provide an overview about appraisals of art and antiques.  Topics will include explaining what a qualified appraisal report should look like, the different types of appraisal reports and the situations that potentially prompt having them prepared, strategies for how to determine if your current insurance coverage is sufficient to protect your collections, things to consider if you are thinking about having an appraisal, and insights about how to communicate to family members about which special heirloom pieces you really love and why.

Sarah Reeder, AAA, ISA CAPP of Artifactual History® Appraisal, is a Certified Member of both the Appraisers Association of America and the International Society of Appraisers with the Private Client Services designation for working with high-net-worth individuals.  She is a graduate of New York University's Certificate Program in Appraisal Studies in Fine & Decorative Arts and received her master's and undergraduate degrees from the College of William & Mary, where she also completed the Certificate Program in Museum Studies, Material Culture, and Early American History from the National Institute of American History and Democracy.

Sarah's professional experience includes positions at the Smithsonian Institution, Library of Congress, Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, as a Subject Specialist at auction houses.

She is Co-Editor of Worthwhile Magazine™, an online magazine of collecting and appraisal knowledge accessible to the general public and professionals alike.  Sarah created the online course “SILVER 101:  Quickly Learn How to Identify Your Sterling Silver and Silverplate to Find the Valuable Pieces and Sort With Empowered Confidence.”  Sarah is a specialist and scholar in Mid-Century Modern and 20th Century Design.
