Speaker: Dr. Raymond Scalettar
What was it like before the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision? After that decision, a women's right to privacy and her reproductive healthcare were preserved – for nearly 50 years. Dr. Raymond Scalettar will discuss the legal and medical aspects of the Supreme Court's June 24, 2022 majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. He will focus on the medical and social consequences of the recent decision which takes us back to the infamous past.
Dr. Raymond Scalettar is a Clinical Emeritus Professor of Medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. He received his Medical Degree and Doctor of Science from the State University of New York, In addition to his practice of medicine in Washington DC, he had a lifetime interest in the socioeconomics of healthcare which he pursued as Chair of the Board and President of the Medical Society of the District of Columbia and nationally, as a leader of the American Medical Association and ultimately Chair, of the Board of Trustees.
