What We’re Hearing….

This meeting will feature Larry Medwetsky, retired Professor and Chair of Hearing, Speech & Language Sciences at Gallaudet University.

Larry will talk to us about some of the more intricate aspects of hearing loss. Many of us are longtime users of hearing aids or cochlear implants. We find that we can hear what is being said but we cannot process the words so that we really understand them. This is not because of inadequate or improperly adjusted hearing devices, but rather because our brains are simply not functioning as well as they can to help us understand the meaning of what we are hearing. Larry will give us clues as to how to improve that processing.

Larry, who holds a doctorate in Audiology, was employed at Gallaudet for 13 years in teaching and administrative positions. Prior to his work at Gallaudet, he worked for 20 years at the Rochester Hearing and Speech Center.

Do you experience hearing loss? Please join us at What We're Hearing, CHV's virtual affinity group focused on hearing impairment, hearing loss, and deafness. In this group, we discuss our experiences with hearing loss, share helpful resources and tips, and create an environment of peer support. This group is co-facilitated by Vira Sisolak (member) and Alex Smith (staff).

Please contact Alex Smith with any questions or concerns by email or by calling 202/543-1778.
